10. What is the weather like?

The average temperatures for this section of West Virginia for April are mid-60s for an average high and high 30s for an average low. It can feel very warm in the day, especially Sunday morning during the Maypole dance. It can also feel very, very cold at night, especially if you have the 2 AM fire watch! Check the weather before you leave, plan accordingly, and wear layers. Remember, it also can rain heavy this time of year. Bringing some extra clothing to change into is a good idea.

11. Where is the nearest airport?

The nearest airport is Dulles International Airport, however this is still a long distance away. Individuals flying in from out of town will need to secure a rental car or arrange for transportation on their own.

12. Are meals provided?

A meal plan can be purchased at the time of registration. If you do not purchase a meal plan at online registration, you will be responsible for your own food needs. There will be no additional meal plan registrations at the festival.

13. What should I expect if this is my first time?

We have written a brief description of what goes on at MMF here.

14. Can I register by mail?

No. To save on processing costs, all registration is now done online. For your convenience, we accept Visa, Mastercard, and electronic check.

15. Can I register on-site?

For the safety and convenience of all, we do not accept on-site registration. All attendees MUST pre-register and pay in advance.

16. I noticed that registration costs are for the entire event. Do you sell weekend passes or one-day passes?

To simply the registration process and help keep costs low for all attendees, registration for the event is a flat rate for the entire event, Thursday through Sunday, whether you attend all four days or not.

17. I'm paying money to attend this festival. Why am I required to work a volunteer shift?

MMF is entirely a volunteer-run festival. Even the people who take on leadership roles for the organization of this festival and spend nearly a year preparing this event for all to enjoy and core volunteers who spend many hours each day ensuring that MMF is a safe and reverent place for joyful celebration pay full registration fees. It takes all the support of the community to make this festival happen, and so as part of the ritual of service that is key to this festival, we require every able-bodied adult and responsible young adult to serve for one volunteer shift over the course of the four-day event. This is one way that we all can embody the principle of "Fairly take and fairly give."

18. Are there off-site accommodations/meals?

We encourage MMF guests whenever possible to stay on site and either eat meals through the meal plan or cook at their campsites so that you can experience all that MMF has to offer. If you need to stay or eat meal off-site, the local area has grown over the year and offers hotel and dining establishments. These arrangements will need to be made on your own, however.

19. Where do I check in?

Directions will be provided following your registration.

20. Is there after-hours check-in?

To preserve the festival experience for all of our volunteers, we have set gate times for check-in. Individuals who arrive outside of those gate times will need to return during registration times. Please plan your travel schedule accordingly. Even if you are registered, if you have not checked in at the registration tent and received a wristband, you are not permitted on festival property. Gate times can be found here.
